TRAVEL TIPS……

Many of us are planners and have everything ready when time to take a trip whether for the day, weekend, or longer. However, some people seem to never be quite ready and are exasperated because things are not going right.
Understandably that sometimes a frustrated beginning of a trip carries that “mood” all the way through the vacation. No need for this if everyone would share their ideas that really work!

Here are a few of ours:

  1. Have a pre-made packing list done in something like an EXCEL spreadsheet for each person in the group. Mom, Dad, Child #1, Child #2 and then one for all the general items. (Be glad to share mine…just email and I will send!)
  2. Have a large drawer in a dresser or a bin in a closet of the things that you only take on vacations usually. Like travel alarm, ponchos, mini-umbrellas, bug spray, suntan lotion, and the such. That way you go thru the bin and pick out what you need this time and dump it back out in the bin when you get back.
  3. Have “little” pouches whether it is a 2.5 gallon zip lock bag or something fancier and have packed the items you always use like toothbrush, toothpaste, basic first aid, shampoo, and such and these go on a shelf on in that bin. IMPORTANT: when you come back go ahead and refill what you need to and it will be ready to go next time
  4. Always pack your clothes in groups in 2.5 gallon plastic bags. Put the t-shirts in one, bathing suits in one, socks, and you see the picture. Squeeze the air out and you will have more room in the luggage. Also, if you fly, the FAA will just move your bags around when they check and not fling everything everywhere!
  5. When planning or before going on a trip, buy an extra large plastic/cardboard type envelope to store the information as you plan. We use those small and large ones with the rubber band to hold them around for hotel, airline, receipts from the trip. They are easy to put into your carrybag.
  6. Here is usually the most important trick: If you pack early (weekend before), life will not be hectic the week of vacation. If you wait to pack (last minute), I assure you that your week is one of constant problems and issues that pressure you. Moral of story: PACK EARLY!
